The Beach is Calling, Summer is Here!

Solstice comes from the Latin words sol, implying Sun and sistere, implying to come to a stop or stand still. At that minute, its zenith does not move north or south as throughout most other days of the year, but it stands still at the Tropic of Cancer.

One might think that considering that it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth is closest to the Sun throughout the June Solstice. But it's the opposite. The Earth is actually farthest from the Sun throughout this time of the year. The Earth will be on its Aphelion a couple of weeks after the June Solstice.

The Earth's range from the Sun has hardly any impact over the Seasons in the world. Rather, it the tilt of Earth's rotational axis, which is angled at around 23.4 degrees, that develops seasons.

The instructions of Earth's tilt does not change as the Earth orbits the Sun - the two hemispheres point to the very same instructions in space at all times. What changes as the Earth orbits around the Sun is the position of the hemispheres in relation to the Sun - the Northern Hemisphere deals with to the Sun throughout the June Solstice, hence experiencing summer. The Southern Hemisphere tilts far from the Sun and therefore delights in winter season throughout this time.

Lets all take pleasure in these lazy hot days of summer. Yes, business goes on, as it must, but taking some time for vacations, family events and for oneself is what we work for in the end, isn't it?
